Accelerating decarbonization

Over the last decade, we have positioned ourselves as leaders in energy transition. We empower our customers to pursue sustainable energy transition solutions. At the same time, we partner with organizations across North America to develop and implement decarbonization strategies that will help us achieve our own net-zero ambition and sustainability goals.

Our Commitment

Walking the talk

To play our part in a decarbonized world, we aim to reach zero emissions by 2040 – earlier than the global net-zero goal for 2050. We are committed to eliminating emissions across all our direct operations, and indirectly through our suppliers and customers. To do that, we have developed a decarbonization roadmap with four specific targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

By 2030

By 2030

By 2030, we aim to reduce our direct emissions from power generation by 80%, reduce our direct and indirect emissions from energy sales by 78% and reduce indirect emissions from our gas retail business by 55%.

Optimize your renewable energy contracts with solutions that mitigate the impacts of an increasingly complex and volatile energy market.

At a global level, Enel Group is committed to achieving full decarbonization in the more than 30 countries where it operates through clean electrification by 2040.

The five pillars of the circular economy

It is possible to reduce environmental impact and promote true sustainable development by going circular. A circular mindset is required throughout the entire value chain to achieve global decarbonization goals, and building circular cities takes intention and cooperation.

Circular inputs

Circular inputs

The use of renewable energy sources and materials that have recycled content are biodegradable, recyclable or renewable.

Product-as-a-service

Product-as-a-service

Through Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) models, the customer uses a product or good, but the producer maintains ownership, incentivizing producers to design for longer life cycles, optimize utilization and ensure proper materials and asset management.

Sharing

Sharing

Platforms that enable the sharing of materials and goods increase their utilization without the need to produce more of them.

Life extension

Life extension

Products are designed to be modular and adaptable, simplifying their maintenance, modification and regeneration.

New lifecycles

New lifecycles

The value of a product is preserved at the end of its lifecycle through processes that reuse, regenerate, upcycle or recycle the product, its components or raw materials.

Our integrated approach in action

Centrio

For large property owners, heating and cooling a building can dominate an operating budget. In Chicago, CenTrio provides district energy to cool hundreds of buildings in the downtown area through a network of cold-water streams that run through the city’s streets.

In partnership with Enel, the company has enrolled four of their six sites in a demand response program, the Emergency Load Reduction Program, which reduces load by dynamically shutting down chiller equipment and shifting to greater use of their ice-battery solution as needed.
