Andover, Mass., March 14, 2024 – Enel North America, a leading clean energy company, has surpassed 10 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind and solar capacity across the United States and Canada as well as over 1 GW of installed utility-scale battery storage. With over two decades of operation, Enel North America has reaffirmed its status as one of the largest and most established clean energy operators in the US and Canada.

"Our record speaks for itself: delivering 10 GW of new clean power in the US and Canada is the result of nearly 25 years of innovation and expertise,” said Paolo Romanacci, Head of Enel North America. "This milestone is a testament to our outstanding team of professionals and their unwavering commitment to building a future free of carbon pollution. Thanks to our partnership with local communities, corporate customers and institutional stakeholders, we’re able to deliver reliable, carbon-free electricity and help create a cleaner and more flexible power grid in the US and Canada."

One of the largest renewable energy operators in North America, Enel’s installed wind and solar power capacity totals 10.3 GW in the US and Canada. This clean energy capacity generates enough electricity to power over 2 million homes and avoid over 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Moreover, Enel North America has emerged as a leader in deploying large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Texas, where it operates the state’s largest BESS portfolio. With 1.3 GW of installed capacity, the company is helping stabilize the ERCOT grid by integrating its renewable energy with flexible storage, dispatching energy and providing critical ancillary services especially as growing energy demand and extreme weather events are constantly testing grid resiliency.

Corporate demand for renewable energy continues to drive demand for more clean electricity. In 2023, Enel North America signed five power purchase agreements (PPAs) with leading brands from different industries for a total of 137 MW of clean power. Most recently, it announced a 22 MW deal with Polaris Inc. for the Fence Post solar project in Texas.

Enel North America remains committed to expanding its clean energy portfolio with its over 28 GW development pipeline of wind, solar and storage projects in markets across the US and Canada, guided by financial sustainability and selective investments with high returns for their shareholders. Enel is also one of the largest demand response providers in the US and Canada, providing demand-side flexibility services to large energy users as a complement to its core utility-scale renewables offering.
