Enel North America’s Enrico Viale Named to 2022 Environment+Energy Leader 50 List

BOSTON, MA – December 13, 2022 Enel North America, a leader in clean energy and energy innovation in the US and Canada, today announced Enrico Viale, Head of Enel North America, has been named to the 2022 Environment+Energy Leader 50 (E+E 50) list for his leadership and dedication to enabling a just energy transition.

Now in its sixth year, the annual E+E 50 list recognizes industry leaders who are paving the way for new solutions, programs, platforms, best practices and products to help their companies – or other companies – achieve greater success in commercial and industrial environment and energy management.

Under Enrico’s leadership, Enel has strengthened its position as a clean energy leader, and innovator in North America. Enel North America currently serves over 4,500 businesses, utilities and cities, and has over 8 GW of utility-scale renewable capacity, 606 MW / 882 MWh of utility-scale energy storage and 63 MW / 145 MWh of distributed energy storage capacity, 4.7 GW of demand response capacity, and 150,000 electric vehicle charging stations.

Furthermore, Enrico continues to drive the expansion and growth of the company in North America to meet market demand. Earlier this year, Enel announced the additions of Enel X Way, a new business line dedicated to electric mobility, and Gridspertise, a grid modernization subsidiary, in North America. Enel also launched its retail energy business offering in select US markets and revealed its intention to open a large-scale PV solar panel and cell manufacturing facility in the US.

Leading nearly 2,000 employees in North America, Enrico has cultivated a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace, resulting in Enel North America being named to top industry lists including, Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators, the Disability Equality Index, Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality index, and more.

During his tenure at Enel, Enrico has often been called to lead growth and integration efforts in regions where Enel has completed acquisitions. Prior to taking his current role in 2019, Enrico lead local operations activities in Europe and globally for the Enel Group, where he oversaw a variety of projects that substantially improved the operational and environmental performance of conventional generation plants. While leading Enel’s global thermal generation business, Enrico championed “Future-e,” an initiative which aimed to retire more than 20 thermal plants while repurposing them into a portfolio of sustainable redevelopments.

The Honorees on the annual list show groundbreaking work and dedication to the field of sustainability and energy management,” says Sarah Roberts, Publisher of Environment+Energy Leader. “We’re thrilled to recognize this year’s Honorees and congratulate all who made the list.
