Andover, Mass., January 25, 2024 – Enel has named Paolo Romanacci the new CEO of Enel North America, Inc., overseeing all of the company’s activities in the US and Canada including renewable power generation, advanced energy services, trading, electric mobility, and more. Romanacci has led the company’s renewable energy business line, Enel Green Power North America, since late 2021. He succeeds Enrico Viale, who served as CEO since the Enel North America entity was established in 2019.
“Paolo has provided exceptional leadership during a volatile and exciting period for renewables in North America,” said Alberto De Paoli, Head of Americas and Rest of the World at the Enel Group. “He is the right leader to carry out Enel’s vision of clean electrification in the US and Canada across all our business lines.
“We are grateful for Enrico’s 20 years of service to Enel, and we wish him the best in this next chapter,” De Paoli said.
Romanacci joined Enel in 2006 and served in various roles around the world in business development, operations & maintenance, and engineering & construction, including nearly three years as Country Manager for Enel Green Power in Mexico. He holds a degree in Aerospace, Aeronautics, and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Rome La Sapienza and worked at NASA and private aerospace firms prior to his tenure at Enel.
“Enel is in an exciting position in the US and Canada as a major player in the clean energy sector,” said Romanacci. “We have an extraordinary team of talented professionals in North America who work hard every day to move us closer to a zero-carbon grid. It has been my honor to lead our renewable energy business in North America for the last two years, and I am thrilled to step up for this new challenge.”
Romanacci is succeeded by Stephen Pike, a longtime executive in the company’s renewable energy business, as head of Enel Green Power North America. Pike joined Enel in 2000 from CHI Energy upon its acquisition by the Enel Group, establishing the company’s first presence in North America. Pike has served Enel for its entire history in North America through multiple leadership roles, mostly in operations & maintenance, and most recently as head of engineering and construction for the US, Canada and Mexico.
