Empowering sustainable progress for all

To move rapidly towards a decarbonized and electrified society, we integrated sustainability into every part of our business. And by doing so, we have proved that we can simultaneously create economic, social and environmental value for all our stakeholders.

Leading the path to zero emissions

Sustainability requires action. To accelerate the journey towards zero emissions and keep the temperatures below 1.5°C, we need to do business differently. As a global clean energy leader, Enel is well-positioned to drive the decarbonization of the world and electrify the economy. The North American region will play a key role in achieving these goals.

The future decades will see a revolution in the energy world that will require unprecedented investments and action. This is the Enel commitment:

Sustainable Energy

From renewable energy to sustainable energy

Producing renewable energy was only the first step. It is time to generate, store and manage clean energy that is sustainable. Shifting to a sustainable energy future requires fully integrated sustainability into every part of our business.

At Enel, we integrate sustainable design and performance throughout the entire value chain to create positive environmental and social impact while maximizing long-term asset performance. From project development to operations and second-life applications of our assets, sustainability is at the center.

Dual-use solar at the Aurora Solar Farm

Where others see a solar plant, we see a solar farm. Enel Green Power’s Aurora Solar Farm located in Minnesota is the perfect example of dual-use solar in which sustainable energy and ecosystem services meet. This renewable site not only avoids over 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions but demonstrates a variety of stewardship practices possible within the plant: low growing meadows, grazing sheep and the creation of pollinator habitats. Aurora Solar is a template for making our next projects better.

Community Engagement

Taking a community-first approach

Creating long-term shared value means working together alongside local stakeholders to help build stronger and more resilient communities. This is why we choose to immerse ourselves by living and working where our projects and partners are located, gaining a better understanding of the needs of our neighbors and forming new partnerships to carry out sustainable initiatives that benefit both the company and the community at large to make a real difference.

Powering a just energy transition

When a community succeeds, renewable projects succeed. Our renewable projects power opportunities for local towns through construction jobs, long-term tax revenue, landowner income, school support and more. Whether school officials, emergency responders or cultural institutions, we are actively listening and understanding our stakeholders’ needs so we can then choose to make investments that create shared value for the whole community and leave no one behind.

Sustainable Finance

Furthering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainability is a lever to generate economic and financial value. Enel is investing in sustainability to further our work towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our business plan focuses on furthering the UN SDGs with 95% of global CapEx from 2021-2023 to four SDGs. And we are not stopping there.

The next wave of sustainable finance

Environmental and climate justice should be a lens by which all capital expenditures should consider going forward. At Enel, we are shifting away from short-termism and expanding corporate commitments towards stakeholder capitalism, with the aim of long-term value creation for all stakeholders and society.
